Who Pays for Long Term Care
There are a variety of ways to pay for home care services when using an agency like HDE, with the most common method being private pay funds. These are funds the care recipient can directly access to pay for the care his or herself. Examples of private funds include annuities, retirement and savings accounts, life insurance benefits, and reverse mortgages. Other types of funding sources for in home care services are listed below. Each comes with its own set of qualifications for eligibility:
- Medicaid in the state of Oregon pays for home care services upon eligibility, contact your local area agency on aging (AAA) office;
- Veterans Affairs has an aid and attendance benefit, click here for the website;
- Long term care insurance policies generally cover in home care, see our HDE insurance page for more info;
- Medicare usually only covers skilled medical services, which do not include in home care services. Longtermcare.gov has more info.
